Ilorin, the Kwara State capital was agog at the weekend as the Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism, Alhaji Lai Muhammed gave out the hand of his beautiful granddaughter, Dr Islamiyat Muhammed, in marriage to her heart-throb, Engineer Abubakar Sambo, son of Famous Ilorin Legal luminary, Barrister Sambo.
Dignitaries from agencies and parastatals under the Ministry of Information and Culture , top Government officials, party chieftains from across political parties, representatives of school alumni amongst others all converged on Ilorin, the Kwara State capital to witness the historic wedding between the Children from Sambo family of Ilorin and Muhammed family of Ile Olubu compound in Oro, the ancestral home of Alhaji Lai Muhammed.
Guests were treated to various local delicacies and drinks with live performances by popular musician, Iya Aladuke.
Earlier, Chairman of the occasion, Board Chairman, National Broadcasting Commission, NBC, Alhaji Bashir Omolaja Bolarinwa, emphasised that marriage is not a bed of roses and encouraged the new couple to treat each other with love and respect and avoid third party intervention in their affairs.
Alhaji Bolarinwa also advised the couple to continue to give love a chance in their marriage and indulge in activities that will strengthen their bond and affection for eachother.
“I advice the new couple to remain friends. On no condition should they allow a third party to interfer in their affairs. As a matter of fact, there’s no marriage that is perfect. It is their responsibility to make the marriage work no matter what.”
Grandfather of the Bride and Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism, Alhaji Lai Muhammed described, the bride, Dr Islamiyat Muhammed as a well behaved girl and expressed optimism that she would build an enviable home.
“She’s a grand daughter I’m very proud of, not just because she is a Medical Doctor, but because she’s so respectful. And that she’s an embodiment of moral.
My prayer for her is that she finds happiness in her home.”
Another prominent guest at the occasion, Director General, Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, Dr Mansur Liman congratulated Alhaji Lai Muhammed for the opportunity to witness the wedding ceremony of his granddaughter and prayed that the love shared between the couple last forever.
“Marriage is full of challenges. Let them enjoy the happy moments and when the challenges come, they should take it that this is part of life. And they should try to make sure that the love that binds them together is much more than the challenges they are going to face.”
Parents of the couple expressed joy for the successful hosting of the ceremony and appreciated everyone who made it to the occasion.
The couple, Engineer Abubakar and Dr Islamiyat Sambo also expressed gratitude to everyone who took time out to celebrate with them and looked forward to a fruitful union.
