Kogi State Acting Chief Judge Justice Josiah Joe Majebi has ordered the unconditional release of three inmates awaiting trial at the Kabba Correctional Center and transfer of One to Okene Correctional Center.

 

Justice Majebi gave the order of release as part of his visit to Correctional Centers across the State to decongest the Facilities.

He assured other inmates that their case shall be given expeditious and fair hearing in the respective Courts handling their cases in accordance to the crimes committed.

 

The Acting CJ however warned those saddled with the administration of justice not to deviate from the laid down procedure as enshrined in the Kogi State Administration of Justice.

 

He equally expressed appreciation to all  stakeholders in the administration of justice who facilitated the exercise as well as Governor Yahaya Bello for his unflinching support and commitment to the success of the prison decongestion.

 

Earlier, the Officer-In-Charge of Medium Security Custodial Centre, Kabba CSC Shuaibu Ishaku who said the Centre comprised 274 inmates with 65 convicts and 209 Awaiting trial appealed for more vehicles to convey those awaiting trial to Courts.

 

Also in his closing remark, the State Controller of Correctional Centers, David Igbago expressed appreciation to the State Acting Chief Judge and his team as well as the Nigerian Police Force for their synergy towards achieving set goals.

 

Those ordered to be released by the Acting CJ based on the legal advice from the State Department of Public Prosecution, DPP, Officer in Charge Legal of the Nigerian Police Force are; Mustapha Ibrahim, Idris Mohammed and Obeh Jamiu Ozovehe while Peter Adeiza Onsachi AKA Michonza is to be transferred to Okene Correctional Center as well as appear before a High Court for hearing of his case.
