Journalists have been urged to desist from spreading fake news especially as the 2023 elections draw nearer.

The Senior Pastor, Salvation Gospel International Centre, Also known as House of Praise, Pastor Michael Foluso gave the charge at a Thanksgiving service to kick start the 2022 press week celebrations in Akure, Ondo state capital.

Pastor Foluso who said some men of God had been victims of fake news said it was disheartening to know that journalists were the ones relaying such news.

He noted with dismay the rate at which some journalists escalated unverified stories saying this does not edify the body of christ and the highly respected journalism profession urging the leadership to flush out all bad eggs.

The clergyman however commended journalists for informing Nigerians about happenings in the country and advised them to uphold the ethics of their profession before, during and after the 2023 general elections.

Speaking at the service, Chairman of Ondo NUJ, Prince Leke Adegbite appreciated the church for accommodating the union always stating that the love shown journalists in the state would be taken for granted.

Prince Adegbite who was also beaming with Joy over the large turnout of members at the event charged them not to throw the ethics of the profession into the dustbin as they report the forthcoming elections.

He enjoined Journalist in State to avoids partisan Politics and comport themselves well at all times.

In his words, the chairman, Press week committee, Mr Sina Adeyeye who appreciated members for turning up enmasse for the thanksgiving service urged them to attend all activities outlined for the week long celebration.

The program was attended by the president of Agape Christian Ministries; Bishop Felix Adejumo, The Olurese of Irese in Ifedore local government area, and the Olu of Aladodo Isinkan in Akure South, Ayodeji Fatoki, the Acting Permanent Secretary of the State Ministry of Information and Orientation, Mrs Toyin Onisile; the SSA to the State Governor on Media & Publicity, Mr Ojo Oyewamide and the immediate Past Chairman of the Union, Mr Tona Aderoboye among Others.
