Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State has tasked Journalists to examine critically the process of political transition in the country.
Declaring open the 2022 press week Ondo NUJ , the governor said the size and composition of INEC, should be looked into.
The Governor represented by the Chairman, OSRC media group, Mr Kunle Adebayo said Healthy cooperation between the media and government would bring about development.
Governor Akeredolu commended the union for the feats achieved so far and charged Journalists to always ensure balanced reportage of events as the 2023 general elections draw nearer.
Speaking on the theme of the symposium, “2023 elections: Media Roles in the quest for desirable leadership” a PDP senatorial candidate, Bashorun Ifedayo Adedipe charged Journalists to hold political office holders accountable for an egalitarian society.
As the fourth estate of the realm, Bashorun Adedipe enjoined Journalists to beam their searchlights on public office holders and seekers while also advocating that those involved in buying and selling of votes during election be made to face the law.
Contributing, the general manager, Radio Nigeria, Positive FM , Mrs Olubunmi Olalere encouraged Journalists to interrogate candidates seeking elective positions on their programmes to enable the electorate make informed decisions.
In a welcome address, the Chairman, NUJ Ondo State council , Mr Leke Adegbite said Ondo Journalists were among the best in Nigeria as they never ran foul of the ethics of the profession.
Prince Adegbite commended the state government for attending to the welfare of members especially those at the Owena press.
