A Non governmental organization , FARDEF for Human Development has feted about fifty children from the Government Special School for the blind, Ikere Ekiti, Ekiti State.
The programme tagged “Christmas outreach for children with disability” was to celebrate Christmas and show love to the children from the Special school in Ikere Ekiti.
In her Remarks, founder of the NGO Mrs Olufisoye Adenitan said the gestures was borne out of her desire to touch lives and make impact on the disadvantaged in the society.
She used the medium to educate the special children on their rights and informed them on the need to be conscious of pedophiles that violate children sexually.
While admonishing the children, the Ekiti state Trade union congress Chairman who was also the chairman on the occasion, Mr Sola Adigun commended FARDEF for the gesture and promised to facilitate scholarship for the students at tertiary education level next academic session.
Also speaking, husband to the convener of the program, Mr Adenitan Akinola said the quest to support the school was borne out of the desire to make life more meaningful to persons with disabilities.
Earlier, the chairman of the Association for the blind, Ekiti state, Mr Olatunbosun Olajide appreciated the gesture and called for more support from well meaning Nigerians to make life more easier for them.
Mr Olajide said a lot of children in the school were hopeless and had no support from family members which makes them unable to further their education after the secondary level.
He called for more bursary and scholarship awards for persons with disabilities for them to be able to further their education to university level.
Vice principal of the school, Mrs Atinuke Agboola commended the NGO for always extending love and support to the association and students in the school.
Dignitaries at the occasion include the programme manager, Mai intiative for Human Development, Mrs Funmi Falae and Mrs Folasade Afolabi.
