The Federal Executive Council, FEC, has approved the construction of senate buildings for two universities at over four billion Naira.

The beneficiaries, according to the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, are Osun State University, Oshogbo, to be completed in 76 weeks, and Federal University, Lokoja, with a completion period of 50 weeks.

The Minister said FEC equally approved the erection of a 50 kilowatts AM radio antenna for the National Commission for Nomadic Education at about 400 million Naira, to be completed in 14 weeks.

Also approved was federal government’s takeover and renaming of David Umahi University of Medical Sciences, Ebonyi, to David Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences, as well as the transmittal of a draft to the National Assembly for enactment.

The Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Investment also got approval to award about 2 billion Naira contract for the construction of a package sewage system for the head office of the Oil and Gas Free Zones Authority within the Liberty Free Zone in Akwa Ibom State.

Briefing State House correspondents on the approval, the Minister, Mr. Niyi Adebayo said the contract would be delivered in 10 months.

Similarly, the Ministry of Works and Housing obtained approval for the refund of about 7 billion Naira to Plateau State Government for previous interventions on federal government roads.

The Minister, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, told newsmen that Borno State would also be refunded with over 3 billion Naira for the same eligibility.

Mr. Fashola explained that FEC had approved another memorandum seeking the commencement of a procurement process for a central clearing house for the operations of toll plaza concessionaires.

He explained that by the approval, the government would identify a private sector operator to work with it to build a central clearing house at their own expense, operate it, recover, and thereafter transfer it back to government.
