Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, FRCN Northeast Zone has organized a one-day training for editors correspondents and reporters preparatory to the 2023 General Election coverage.
The participants were drown from Radio Nigeria Globe FM Bauchi, Jewel FM Gombe, Fombina FM Yola, Sunshine FM Poteskum and Peace FM Maiduguri.
In an address of welcome, the FRCN Northeast Zonal Director Director, Malam Babayo Askira said the aim was to expose the participants to the new Electoral Act 2022 and guidelines for the election coverage.
Delivering a paper, titled Extract of Electrical Act 2022 As It Effect FRCN, the Resource Person and General Manager, Radio Nigeria Jewel FM Gombe, Garba Danbatta urged the participants to have the knowledge of the Electoral Act for them to be in tandem with the law adding that they should also be professional in their conducts.
Contributing, the Director News FRCN Headquarters, Husaina Akila Banshika encouraged the participants to always be resilient in the discharge of their professional duties and advised them to ensure their safety first for smooth delivery of their job.
She commended the Zonal Office for organizing the training saying it was a step in the right direction.
The State Officer, National Broadcasting Commission, NBC Muhammad Sani Baba who took the participants through NBC Code advised them not to allow fake news, hate speech, disinformation and misinformation to go on air so as to avoid the sanctions from the commission.
The Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, Aminu Alhassan represented by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, PPRO Ahmed Wakil emphasized that the Police would create safe areas for journalists covering election and assured of adequate security before during and after the election.
