The Chairman Independent National Electoral Commission INEC has urged eligible Nigerians to confirm their voting locations before the 25th of this month for the Presidential and National Assembly elections.

A statement signed by the INEC Chairman Professor Mahmood Yakubu indicates that in the efforts of the Commission to make voting more credible and result management more transparent, it introduced a number of innovations facilitated by technology.

HOW TO CONFIRM YOUR VOTING LOCATION

It also states that the Commission expanded Voter access to polling units by establishing 56,872 new ones to give Nigerians a more pleasant experience on Election day.

“As I have said repeatedly the right to vote can only be exercised where there is a place to vote ”

Professor Yakubu says that reports from the recent mock accreditation indicates that many voters turned up at the wrong polling units.

“This happens both in cases where voters have been migrated to other polling units by the Commission and even where they voluntarily chose new locations during the last Continuous Voter Registration ,CVR .”

The INEC Chairman says that the Commission is sending bulk phone messages to citizens voting in new polling units and the register of such voters for each State has been sent to the Resident Electoral Commissioners for Publicity.

It notes that the Commission is adding two unique ways by which all voters can locate and confirm their polling units before the election days on their website.
