Wife of Ondo State Governor, Mrs Betty Anyawu-Akeredolu has distributed delivery kits, also known as “SOLAYO” to expectant mothers in the state in commemoration of this year’s International Women’s day.
The program was Organised simultaneously in all 18 local government of the state.
At Akure North local government, Mrs Akeredolu who was represented by the Chairperson, Akure North Local Government, Miss Gbemisola Ogbesetore, said the initiative was aimed at identifying pregnant women who could not afford essential birth items and empower them with the Solayo kits.
Speaking on this year’s IWD theme “Digital Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality” Mrs Akeredolu said over the years there has been improvement in the status of women, stressing the need to urgently nip in the bud several challenges affecting the opportunities, choices and socioeconomic well-being of women and girls in the society.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs Toyin Idogun and Kemi Ajayi thanked Mrs Akeredolu for the gesture and promised to heed all medical advice given to them by practitioners.
In her address of welcome, Head of administration, Akure North Local Government, Mrs Adejoke Adejoro, who described International Women’s Day as special encouraged them to play their part in achieving equality.
In a pep talk to the expectant mothers at the programme, Akure North Primary Health Care Coordinator, Dr. Amodu Olusegun, represented by Mrs Bolanle Ariyo, urged the expectant mothers to take care of themselves by avoiding self medication, eat balance diet, care for their personal hygiene and visit the hospital for routine medical check.
In their goodwill messages, Chief Matron of BEMORE and SSA Administration, Mrs Lizzy Akpan and Chancellor Social Development, Mrs Idowu Aseroyin said women in the state no longer see themselves as dependants but benefactors with lot of innovation by the wife of the Ondo state governor.
