Motorists plying Asio axis of Ile-Oluji/Ondo road were this morning stranded when a gas laden tanker fell and blocked the road, disrupting vehicular movements for hours.

It was gathered that the incident which occurred around 9 o’clock caused serious traffic jam as travellers and those going to church could not get through.

Efforts by other motorists and okada riders to create an alternative routes were unsuccessful as fear gripped those around of imminent explosion of the gas tanker.

An eyewitness told Radio Nigeria that many road users had decided to turn back when a lawmaker-elect representing, Ile-oluji / Oke Igbo constituency, Akindolani Akinsuroju arrived the scene of the incident.

Mr Akinsuroju was said to be traveling to Owo for an event organized for all the lawmakers-elect of the House Assembly had to suspend the trip so as to salvage the situation and prevent any disaster from the fallen gas tanker.

It was also gathered that the lawmaker-elect made a phone call that a Mobile Crane be deployed to the scene to move the faulty gas tanker off the road and allow for free flow of vehicles.

Reacting, some motorists commended the efforts of the lawmaker-elect for coming to the rescue of motorists.

They also appealed to haulage service providers to ensure that their vehicles are always in good shape, before they hit the roads.
