Vice President Kashim Shettima has commissioned the new National Assembly Mosque.
Senator Shettima, who represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urged leaders at all levels to act with humility as they discharge their responsibilities while in positions of authority and seek their hereafter through similar projects and charity.
Shettima said, they should also be mindful of the transient of power and life as they must one day leave their positions and the world.
“50 years from now, many people will not be alive. We should act with humility, power and wealth are gifts from Allah”,he said.
He said the mosque would improve the productivity of the staff of the national assembly as no staff will have to go outside to look for a mosque to pray.
President of the Senate Ahmed Lawan, commended the fundraising committee led by Senator Shekarau.
According to him, the Lawmakers and staff tasked themselves monthly to finance the project, where by senators contributed 400 thousand naira each 250 thousand naira each monthly for eight months.
The speaker of the house of Representatives Femi Gbajabiamila, emphasize the importance of sacrifice of one’s wealth, energy and time towards serving God and humanity.
The Emir of Kano Alh Aminu Ado Bayero, who represented the Sultan of Sokoto, urged the committee to ensure the effective maintenance of the mosque.
Chairman of the mosque project committee, Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, explained that the mosque was constructed through contributions from both Muslim lawmakers and staff of the National Assembly where by 570 million naira was realized.
The two Raka’at Friday prayer was later conducted led by by the Chief Imam, Sheikh Rayyanu Sani.
