It was a celebration of culture and tradition at the Cultural Display and Apprecaition Carretta 2023 on Saturday as residents from across the five divisions of Lagos State converged on the Agege Stadium to celebrate the inauguration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the Deputy Governor, Dr Obafemi Hamzat for a second term in office.

Themed “Lagos Cultural Extravaganza” there were various displays, parades and dances from masquerades including; egungun, Igunnuko, angere, as well as cultural and arts groups, from each of the five divisions; Ikeja, Badagry, Ikorodu, Lagos Island and Epe during the event which was part of the post inauguration activities.

In a message, Governor Sanwo-Olu described the event as a truly pan-African celebration that symbolises unity in diversity and a testament of the shared history of Lagosians.

“Indeed, this event is more than just a festival. It is a testament to our shared history, our resilience, and our ability to transform our cultural differences into a vibrant expression of unity. It mirrors the spirit of Lagos, a city that thrives on the strength of its diversity and cherishes its unique blend of cultures. The myriad of costume, infectious rhythms of the drums, the exuberant dances, and the tantalizing . flavours of our diverse cuisine that grace the event are all symbols of the rich cultural tapestry that is Lagos. They represent the harmonious blend of various cultures that have found a home in this great city and contribute to its unique identity” he said

Buttressing this in an interview with newsmen, the Chairman of the Media and Publicity Subcommittee of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Dr Obafemi Hamzat 2nd term inauguration, Mr Gbenga Omotoso noted that the event is an indication of the commitment of the Sanwo-Olu’s administration to the promotion of culture and the creative industry.

Footprints of David, a children arts and education advocacy group from Bariga, clinched the first position for the display of culture and performance, the Zangbeto from Badagry got the 2nd position, while
Ajojimale masqurade from Epe came 3rd.

Thanksgiving services will be held across the State on Sunday to round off the inauguration activities.
