Ondo state women basketball team Sunshine Angels have picked one of the tickets to play in the Nigeria top women basketball league.
The team came second behind a highly motivated MFM basketball team of Lagos in group A after loosing the last game by 51-58 points at the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium Benin city Edo State.
Sunshine Angels earlier defeated two other teams,Bini queens of Edo State and Delta force of Asaba and Bayelsa blue whales of Yenagoa in group A of the competition.
Speaking in a telephone interview with our sports desk shortly after the game, head coach Sunshine Angels, Sola Aluko said the qualification means a lot to the girls who have worked hard from home and it would further motivate and exposed them to more competitive games.
Coach Aluko also expressed joy that despite the stress and challenges faced by the team, three out of the girls(sunshine angels) have been invited to the under sixteen national camp in Abuja.
The three players invited to the national camp included Ajewole Mercy Dada,Kehinde Jesuntofunmi Boluwatife and Anani Gift Oyom.
Coach Aluko also said the technical crew which included his assistant coach Fisayo Bello, secretary of the Ondo state basketball team Adeleye Oluwafemi have done everything humanly possible to encourage the girls to this stage and seek the support of the state government and all sports stakeholders in preparing the team for the national basketball league.
