President Bola Tinubu has sworn in Senator George Akume as the new Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF.

 

The brief event, which took place at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, was witnessed by some serving and former Governors.

 

In an interview, the new SGF promised to serve honorably.

“I am elated to have been selected to serve in this exalted position out of over 200 million Nigerians. It’s a challenge, and assured Nigerians I will do my best. I will not disappoint the President, I will not disappoint this country, I will not disappoint my party. I believe Nigerians will find fulfilment in my responsibilities as I discharge them”, he said.

 

Benue State governor, Hyacinth Alia, said his was confident that Senator George Akume would not betray the trust reposed in him.

 

“Out of the many states, Benue is chosen, and it’s one of her sons, whom we’re all proud of. We know what he has offered in the past many decades for the state and the country. We’re confident that he’s also going to deliver, and the nation is going to be proud that our choicest man from the state is selected and sworn in for this great job”, the Governor said.

 

Also speaking on the capability of his successor, Mr. Boss Mustapha, said the years of experience Senator Akume had acquired in service would help him to deliver.

 

“He has garnered a lot of experience, both as an administrator, as a legislator, as a minister, in the cabinet of President Muhammadu Buhari. I have no doubt that he’s prepared for the job, but he’s definitely going to succeed”, he stated.

 

Also present at the event were the Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Ahmed Lawan, Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Dr. FolasadeYemi-Esan, and the spouse of the new SGF, Mrs Regina Akume.
