Gunmen who stormed the Greenland community in the Ajaokuta Local Government Area of Kogi State on Monday were said to have succeeded in abducting three members of a family, therefore throwing residents into confusion.
It was gathered that the incident happened around 9pm when the armed men invaded the community located behind the 500 Housing Estate, Ganaja in the Ajaokuta Local Government Area of the state.
An eyewitness, who did not want his name in print for fear of victimisation, said the armed men arrived at the community in a Sienna vehicle.
The source said they shot indiscriminately while trying to kidnap a retired security officer believed to be their prime target.
The Chairman of the Greenland community, Paul Atabor, confirmed the incident to journalists on Wednesday.
Atabor explained that the incident has been reported to the ‘C’ Division of the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services.
He added that the community, on Wednesday morning, received a notice from the suspected kidnappers that they will return to kidnap more residents
The letter cited by reporters read, “Greenland community, get ready for us, we are coming to get someone.”
One of the family members of the kidnap victims told our correspondent that the kidnappers have reached out to the family members and are demanding ransom.
The source did not, however, disclose the amount being demanded by the kidnappers.
When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP William Aya, said the command headquarters was yet to be briefed about the incident.
