A Niger Delta activist, Alhaji Asari Dokubo, has warned that oil theft in the region will continue to thrive unless the President superintends activities of security personnel deployed to stop the crime.
He gave the warning in Abuja while speaking with newsmen after his meeting with President Tinubu.
Alhaji Dokubo said on their part the Niger Delta had recognised the efforts of the President at dealing with economic saboteurs head-on, and decided to support him to succeed.
“Myself and my brothers have assured the President that there will be zero oil theft and vandalism in the Niger Delta. We’re going to work with the NNPC, PCL, and the IOCs to make sure oil theft is brought to zero”, he stressed.
Alhaji Dokubo, who lamented that oil theft in the region was appalling, warned that no amount of contracts given to stop the crime could yield the desired results if government officials involved were not taken out.
“Even if they give one billion contracts to everybody in the Niger Delta, nothing will happen. The President has promised to take decisive action to make sure that this does not continue. It is very shameful”, he expressed disgust.
Alhaji Dokubo also said people of the Niger Delta would support the Federal Government to stop the advances of criminals.
