The Wife of Ebonyi State Governor, Mrs. Uzoamaka Nwifuru, has promised to wage war against gender based violence and work towards the promotion of rights and wellbeing of women and children in the state.
She announced this when she received in audience officials of UNICEF in her office at Government House, Abakaliki.
Mrs. Nwifuru said she was passionate about children and would liase with ministries to improve their welfare as well as end female genital mutilation, FGM, and other obnoxious practices inimical to the welfare of women in the state.
The wife of the Governor commended UNICEF for conferring on her an award as an ambassador and vowed to pursue women and children friendly-based policies in the state.
The leader of the delegation and country Officer, UNICEF, Abuja, Mr. Godwin Odo, said the visit was to seek areas of collaboration with the wife of the Governor to ensure protection and wellbeing of children in the state.
He said that UNICEF would train community based child protection groups across the state and solicited the partnership of the state government to ensure the success of the programme.
