Gunmen suspected to be cult members have shot three students of Osun State College of Health Technology, Ilesa.

According to reports, the incident happened on Sunday at a barbershop at Amita Junction, Ilesa where the victims had gone to charge their phones.

According to school sources, the victims, a male student and two female students were shot, leaving them with significant wounds.

The victims were immediately taken to the Osun State University Teaching Hospital, Osogbo for medical attention.

Even though the reason behind the shooting could not be ascertained, there were reports that two rival cult groups may be at loggerhead.

“I don’t know what caused the incident, but the three students went to a barbershop in Amuta to charge their phones when we heard gunshots.

The public relations officer for the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps’ Osun State Command, Kehinde Adeleke confirmed that the incident had been reported but stated more information on the perpetrators of the crime was yet unknown.

 

“On Sunday, July 23, 2023, around 9 p.m., it was reported that three students—one male and two female—from the Osun State College of Health Technology, Ilesa—were shot by unidentified assailants while using the Amuta junction to charge their phones,” Adeleke added.

 

“The students suffered severe bullet wounds. The Amuta community has transported the victims urgently to Uniosun Teaching Hospital Osogbo. Later on, the students were directed to the OAU Teaching Hospital in Ile-Ife.
