A lawmaker representating Ayedire/Iwo/Ola-Oluwa federal constituency of Oyo state, Hon. Mudasiru Lukman has called on the Federal Government to speed up the construction of the 32km Gbongan-Iwo-Oyo Road.

The Lawmaker while speaking on the floor of the house of representatives on Wednesday raised concern on how the road had been abandoned since it was awarded in 2011.

Hon Lukman popularly known as L&K stressed the need to include the road in the 2024 budget to accelerate its construction as findings revealed the delay in the project was as a result of setbacks in the fund released.

He expressed concerns over the hardship faced by users of the road due to its deplorable state which has also hindered the economic growth of the state.

In his prayer, he recalled that former President Buhari later awarded the construction of the road to Kopek Nig. Ltd in 2011 at the cost of #6.9B yet the road remains uncompleted not even half of it.

After presenting the bill to a logical end, the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Benjamin Kalu then tasked the Federal Ministry of Works, Power and Housing to switch into action in getting to the root of what might be causing delay in the project and implement measures for the speedy completion of the road.
