The Federal Government is to construct a One Thousand, Three Hundred and Fifty Megawatts Capacity Independent Power Plant at Gwagwalada in the Federal Capital Territory.

The Project is aimed at bridging the Electricity gap in Abuja and environs.

At the ground breaking of the project in Gwagwalada, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu said, the project was targeted at improving the nation’s Energy development as promised by his Administration to generate additional Power to the Energy Grid.

The President who reassured of his Administration’s resolve to address every obstacle slowing down the progressive development of the country maintained that, the project was a first bold step the nation had taken to provide Energy to boost economic opportunities and to drive Nigeria into a rapid development in all sectors.

President Bola Tinubu acknowledged that, the absence of adequate Energy supply had discouraged many Investors and made the nation a consuming rather than being a productive one.

The Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC-Limited, Mallam Mele Kyari at the opening of the Groundbreaking for the Independent Power Plant Project, gave an assurance that, the Company would fastrack the project to engender development and create job opportunities for people in the area and beyond.

Mallam Kyari also reiterated the Company’s unflinching commitment towards supporting the Federal Government’s Gas-to-Power aspirations through effective utilization of Nigeria’s abundant Gas Resources.

The Groundbreaking ceremony of the Independent Power Plant Project in Gwagwalada was attended by the Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources, Ambassador Gabriel Aduda, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Benjamin Kalu, the Governor of Borno state, Babagana Zulum, Captains of Industry and other top Government functionaries
