The Ministry of Women Affairs is to embark on aggressive rural skill acquisition programmes to enable women contribute to socio economic development of the country.
The new minister of women Affairs, Mrs Uju Kennedy stated this while addressing Newsmen when she assumed duty at the ministry’s headquarters in Abuja.
Mrs Kennedy said skill acquisition centers would be established across the seven hundred and seventy four local governments to train women on all year round farming and vocational skills.
According to her, the ministry will work with traditional institutions and village heads to ensure that rural women are the real beneficiaries of women empowerment programmes.
The minister stressed that rehabilitation centers would also be established to empower women and discourage street begging.
Mrs Kennedy maintained that relevant Government agencies would be consulted for a Health insurance Scheme for rural women.
This, according to her will improve the health of women and access to affordable health services as well as address maternal mortality .
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Mrs Monilola Udoh said the Staff were fully ready to support every initiative to enhance women productivity.
Representatives of women organizations collectively pledged to mobilize support towards the realization of the ministry’s vision and mission.
