The Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission, ODIEC says Ten political parties have submitted the list of their candidates as part of preparations towards the 17th February 2024 Local Government Elections in Ondo State in line with the election guidelines directive.
ODIEC had given a deadline for political parties to submit the list of their various candidates for participation in the Local Government Elections, not later than August 23, 2023.
A statement by ODIEC Commissioner in charge of Communication, Publicity and ICT, Mr Tunde Adeleye indicates that ODIEC law and Electoral Act (2022), stipulated that all Electoral Management Bodies, EMB shall publish the list of candidates within 7 days of the receipt of the list and personal particulars of the candidates.
According to him, ODIEC had fulfilled its statutory obligation by publishing the list and personal particulars of candidates vying for the position of Councillor, and pasting same on the wall of ODIEC offices across the 18 Local Government Areas.
The statement notes that the list and personal particulars of contestants vying for the positions of Chairman and Vice Chairman have been pasted at the ODIEC Secretariat office on Oba-Ile road, Akure.
The State Electoral body reiterated its commitment to conducting free, fair, credible and transparent Local Government elections on 17th February, 2024.
