The Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC has paraded two suspects for rape.
The suspects, Idowu Yahaya, 39 and John Balogun, 49, allegedly abused 15 and 17 year old girls.
One of the suspects, Idowu Yahaya, a private security guard at Ga’a Akanbi area of Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, was said to have sexually molested the victim in an office, while John Balogun, a private school teacher, was arrested for raping his 17 year old step daughter at Osere area.
The State NSCDC Commandant, Umar Mohammed, in a statement made available to newsmen described rape as one of the fastest growing violent crimes in the society.
He noted that the act is highly traumatic as it affects the victims in physical, psychological, and sociological ways.
Commandant Umar Mohammed, therefore, urged parents and guardians to be vigilant and bring their children closer to them and to also encourage them to freely share their experiences.
He encouraged victims not to shy away from reporting rape cases, assuring them that the corps has a safe approach to investigating the criminal act.
The Kwara State NSCDC Commandant also appealed to the general public for total cooperation, especially on intelligence information to reduce crimes and criminalities in the society.
