Preparation for this year’s Ulefunta festival will begin on Saturday with 20 kilometres Akure Owa-Oropo Marathon Race within the capital city
The Chairman, central steering committee Ulefunta, Chief Adekunle Ajanaku revealed this in Akure, while addressing newsmen on Ulefuta, the festival which marks Deji of Akure, Oba Aladelusi Aladetoyinbo annual leave
Chief Ajanaku said the race to be led by an Akure-born Commonwealth and Olympics medalist, coach Lawrence Adegbehingbe had the potentials in the race ran by palace aides called Omode Owas for the past 500 years
He explained that the Ulefunta festival would also capture medical outreach by October 5th, annual lecture at FUTA October 12th as well as scholarships and posthumous awards to Akure prominent indigenes by October 14th.
Recognising Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu hitherto assistance, the committee also urged the Governor to temporarily remove the concrete barrier at Deji’s palace road junction to ease Deji’s traditional walk to MKO Abiola Democracy Park
The Ulefunta festival will come to a end on 15th September, 2023 with a thanksgiving service and raffle draw.
