The Federal government has launched an online research platform for tertiary education.

The platform called, Tertiary Education Research Applications and Services, TERAS which houses various research works and a range of other services was developed by TETFUND, with the aim of reforming the educational system.

At the unveiling in Abuja, the Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman stated that the government was leveraging on digital technology to ensure that every student had easy access to research materials.

Professor Mamman said the government would ensure that the platform achieves its objective of transforming the sector for the benefit of students and staff.

”The Ministry on its part will continue to provide our beneficiary institutions and TETFUND with unwavering support to fully realize the potential of TERAS and the key component of our resolve in repositioning, strengthening and rekindling hope in our Tertiary institutions”

The Acting secretary of TETFUND, Sunny Echono explained that the challenges posed during the COVID-19 pandemic made it imperative to develop the platform to make educational services available to students at no cost.

“TERAS has its origins from the challenging days of the COVID-19 pandemic a period when our nation and education system ground to a halt. the impact was profound. It also served as a catalyst for action. We envisioned as a specialised hub for tertiary education services, fostering quality assurance, collaboration, efficiency and innovation”.

In attendance at the event were the Minister of state for Education, Dr. Yusuf Sununu, Acting Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission, Mr. Christopher Maiyaki and other stakeholders who joined the event virtually.
