There was tension in Ogbagi community in Akoko North west local government area of Ondo state on Wednesday 18th, October 2023 as one Chief Moses Adeyemo allegedly shot two persons during the celebration of the popular Ajagbo festival.
The festival entails youths singing folk songs round the town to reprimand and mock any indigene who had engaged in any form of vices.
Things however went sour when the youths approached the house of the Sajowa of Egako, Chief Moses Adeyemo who was one time accused of an immoral act as he reportedly shot into the air sporadically to disperse them.
All the youths scampered to safety.
Two persons, Eniola Adewunmi and Timilehin Ogunyemi were not so lucky as they were shot in the leg and hand.
They were immediately rushed to the hospital.
Speaking on the hospital, one of the victims, Eniola Adewumi said he was lucky to have escaped with his life but lamented that he might lose his leg if proper medical attention was not given to it.
Mr Adewumi said he had adopted traditional means to remove the bullets pelets from his ankle but could not afford the bill of over 300,000 naira.
Speaking on this, his wife, Mrs Olatunde Adewumi while soliciting for help, said her husband had been writting in pain for days as they could not afford the hospital bill neither the traditional treatment.
A youth leader at Ogbagi, Mr Kehinde Oyeyemi expressed surprise that the Ajagbo festival which had been in practice for centuries could turn bloody.
Mr Oyeyemi called for thorough investigation into the incident and a review of indiscriminate use of local fire arms in villages.
Confirming the incident, Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs Funmi Odunlami-Omisanya said that the suspect, Chief Adeyemo had been arrested and transfered to Akure for further interrogation.
