Suspected armed robbers on Friday attacked three commercial banks in Otukpo township in Benue state, killing eight people including policemen on the spot.
An eye witness told Radio Nigeria that the criminals stormed the banks at about 5pm and started shooting sporadically, killing four policemen and bank customers and thereafter carted away large sums of money.
According to the source, the operation lasted for over one hour unchallenged, causing apprehension among the residents.
When contacted, the Public Relations Officer, Benue State Police Command,SP Sewuese Anene, confirmed the development.
