The Ministry of Women Affairs and the Nigeria Governors’ Forum are to institute mobile courts specifically designed to handle cases related to sexual and gender-based violence, child abuse in the form of street begging, and expedited trial of women and children held in Correctional facilities.

The initiative, proposed by the Minister, Mrs. Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, is aimed at expediting the legal process in addressing harmful practices against women and girls.

A statement by her Special Assistant Media, by Mr. Ohaeri Osondu, said the minister reached out to the governors and other relevant stakeholders, seeking their support in this crucial endeavour.

In response to this call for action, the governors have pledged their commitment to implementing this initiative within their respective states, the statement said.

Mrs. Kennedy-Ohanenye expressed  optimism that the partnership would significantly bolster the Ministry’s renewed approach to combating social vices that disproportionately affect women.
