The Kano State government says it had conducted thorough investigation on the AGILE programme which was targeted at supporting the Education of the Girl Child.
The Commissioner for Education, Alhaji Umar Haruna Doguwa disclosed this during a stakeholders meeting held in Kano.
He said following agitations and complaints from ulamas and other stakeholders on the negative aspect of some portions of the programme ,the ministry had conducted a thorough screening of the entire AGILE programme and had expunged all the aspects that were contrary to the teachings of Islam and culture.
“We established a committee which reviewed the AGILE Text Books and all areas that are contrary to our religion and culture has been expunged and we call on the Ulamas and other stakeholders to come with suggestions and opinions on any program sponsored by foreign donors ”
In his remark, the coordinator of the program in Kano, Alhaji Nasiru Kwalli said the resolutions of the stakeholders meeting would be translated into Hausa Arabic for stakeholders to have a clear understanding of what the Girl Child were being taught in school aimed at ensuring that it tallies with the teachings of Islam and culture
The Emir of Katsina had recently directed that the AGILE programme should be stopped in the state because it contained aspects that were contrary to the teachings of Islam and culture
