Ondo State Acting Governor, Mr Lucky Aiyedatiwa upon assuming office on Thursday launched the emblem appeal fund for the 2024 Armed forces and remembrance day celebration .
Speaking at the cocoa conference, governor’s office in Akure, venue of the event, the acting Governor said the emblem appeal marked annually was to rekindle interests in the plights of families, dependants and relations of great Nigerian heroes.
He then announced an increase in the annual state donation to the Nigerian legion from N2.5 million to N3 million saying the state was concerned with the plights of their family members.
The Ondo State Chairman, Nigerian Legion, Retired Colonel Olu Apata thanked the Government for its gestures.
He solicited that legionnaires be involved in the security architecture of councils areas and intelligence gathering.
In an address, the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs Julianah Osadahun, appealed for generous donation .
Present at the event were the Speaker, Ondo state house of Assembly, Chief Olamide Oladiji, representative of the State Chief Judge, members of the state executive council and heads of military and para military agencies.
The 2024 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration kicks off with a Jumat service on January 10, Church service on January 12 and Military parade with laying of wreaths on Saturday 15th January, 2024.
Earlier on Thursday, Acting Governor Lucky Ayedatiwa called for unity and cooperation aftermath the political logjam following controversies over continuous absence of ailing Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu from the state who has now formally taken another medical vacation abroad.
