The League of Veteran Journalists of Nigeria, Ondo State Chapter has held its annual lecture .
It was a sort of reunion when members of the league of veteran journalists in Ondo State gathered at the NUJ press centre, Alagbaka Akure.
The programme started with a prayer session led by a former general manager of Broadcasting Service of Ekiti State , BSES , Mr Jide Olusola and a minute silence for members who had passed away.
The Chairman of the league and former board member, OSRC, Asiwaju Banji Kuroloja in an opening address welcomed the participants and expressed gratitude to God for having everyone in good health.
The lecture delivered by a veteran journalists trainer, Chief Dayo Duyile was also attended by other members of the pen profession.
Delivering the lecture , Chief Duyile who could not hide his passion for journalism claimed Nigeria would not be complete without journalism.
He encouraged practicing journalists to continue to uphold the ethics of the profession .
Chief Duyile however cautioned journalists against fake reports advising them to always stand in the gap for dissemination of real and true information.
In an address, the General Secretary of the group and a former director of news , OSRC , Mr Seinde Omokoba noted that journalism was one profession that one could still practice even in retirement.
A member of the veteran group, Mr Gbenga Olajuyi of the Blue Pen Newspapers advocated a trust fund for journalists to cater for their welfare and another way of ensuring journalists put in their best without fair or favour.
In a remark, the Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists , NUJ, Prince Leke Adegbite emphasized that journalism was not a money making venture and advised up and coming journalists to keep to standard of objectivity, fairness and truth.
The League of Veteran Journalists of Nigeria ,Ondo State Chapter has been in existence for four years.
