The Federal Government has begun the inspection of all roads undergoing reconstruction and rehabilitation across the country.
The Zonal Coordinator North East 1, Federal Roads Maintenance Agency FERMA in charge of Borno,Yobe and Jigawa States Engr. Hussaini Abubakar made the disclosure when he led a delegation of FERMA Road Engineers on an inspection visit to Potiskum-Kukuri-Audubi to Bauchi Road which is currently undergoing rehabilitation.
According to him, the Project named “Operation Connect Your Destination” is a direct labour work, aimed at patching all potholes and creating an extension on the shoulder of the road to control erosion.
The Team Lead and Director Procurement Federal Roads Maintenance Agency, Bamai Hamman Damaturu said the project, initiated by the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency is an annual excercise aimed at providing safer and efficient roads and also improve connectivity among road users.
Bamai explained that his team had inspected some roads in Jigawa, now in Yobe and subsequently heading to Borno, under the “Operation Connect Your Destination project”.
FERMA Road Engineer in charge of Yobe State, Engr. Ahmed Mallam Baba noted that the scope of work carried out along Potiskum-Audobe-Bauchi State Border Road, Include the cutting and patching of 235 square meters of potholes and the reinstatement of shoulder drop with a width of 2.75 Meters and a length of 580 Meters.
Some Motorist plying the road expressed gratitude and appreciation to the Federal Government for Patching and rehabilitating the road which according to them have caused the death of many Drivers and Passenger.
The Emir of Kukuri Alh Umaru Abdulrazak Kukuri, thanked and expressed gratitude to the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency and the Federal Government, for extending their work to remote or hard to reach places.
Alh Kukuri also appealed on behalf of his Community to FERMA, to construct a one kilometer road and drainage, from the main road to Kukuri town to ease their transportation especially during raining season.
