The ECOWAS commission says it is yet to receive any official communication from the three member states of Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso about their intention to withdraw their membership of the community.
A communique by the ECOWAS Commission in Abuja says the attention of the commission has been drawn to a statement broadcast on the national Television of Mali and Niger announcing the decision of Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger to withdraw from the sub-regional body.
It says that the ECOWAS commission, as directed by the Authority of heads of state and government has been working with these countries for the restoration of constitutional order.
The statement reiterates that the three countries remain important members of the community and the authority remains committed to finding lasting solutions to their political impasse.
The ECOWAS commission says it remains seized with the development and shall make further pronouncements as the situation evolves.
