The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Ekiti State Command, DSP Sunday Abutu has said that eight more suspects have been arrested for allegedly masterminding the killing of two traditional rulers and the kidnapping of school children in Ekiti State.

Abutu, in a statement on Thursday revealed that the suspects were arrested during a bush combing operation in Ekiti and Ondo forests, comprising the Police Command and other security agencies.

The PPRO further reveal that the suspects are currently undergoing investigations while calling on members of the public to support the police with credible and timely information.

The statement reads: “Following the recent kidnapping of some school children in Emure-Ekiti and the killing of two traditional rulers in Ikole-Ekiti, the Command, in order to ensure the rescue of the victims and the apprehension of the culprits, deployed the Rapid Response Squad for a bush combing operation in collaboration with the military personnel, Amotekun Corps, Vigilantes, Local Hunters, Members of Agbekoya Group including Policemen and Amotekun Corps from Ondo State.

“During the operation which was carried out through Emure-Ekiti Forest, Ise/Ogbese Forest to Emure-Ile Forest in Ondo State, the following eight (8) suspects were further arrested in the Forests: YAYA SUMAILA, IDRISU ABUBAKAR, HASSAN ABUDULLAHI, ABUDULLAHI ABUDULLAHI, HARUNA ABUBAKAR, USMAN ABUDULLAHI, HARUNA SULE including one BABUSA ALHAJI LEDE who was arrested inside Ayedun/ Ayebode Ekiti forest in Ikole Area of the State.

“The suspects are currently undergoing investigation and are giving credible information that could lead to the arrest of other fleeing suspects that perpetrated the dastard acts.

“Exhibits recovered from the suspects are: one life Cow, three cutlasses, one axe, one dagger including food items.

“While the Command will not rest until the fleeing hoodlums are made to face the full wrath of the law, members of the public are hereby implored to be calm and support the Police with credible and timely information that could lead to the arrest of those behind these heinous acts and other criminal elements in the State.”
