The Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission, ODIEC has postponed the local government election to Saturday, July 13, 2024

 

ODIEC Chairman, Dr Joseph Aremo disclosed this at a stakeholders meeting in Akure.

 

The local government election was earlier scheduled to hold on Saturday 17th, February, 2024.

 

Dr Aremo said the postponement was due to non compliance with Electoral guidelines by political parties.

 

The ODIEC Chairman who described election as a process noted that the commission will continue to be guided by law, relevant guidelines and regulations.

 

He maintained that ODIEC will ensure every steps in the conduct of elections will be followed towards free, fair and credible election.

 

Reacting, IPAC Chairman, Olaoluwa Adesanya expressed that the process of the Council poll was distorted by political parties conventions and congresses which fell within the time frame of the stipulated dates for the conduct of the election.

 

Mr Adesanya apologized on behalf of the political parties to ODIEC and expressed their readiness for the local council poll.

 

Contributing, IPAC Secretary, Mr Alex Adeniyi made case for the participation of three new political parties and emphasized that the electoral body should be sure the state government is ready to conduct the local government election.

 

Ondo PDP State Secretary, Mr Oluseye Olujimi in a contribution expressed the readiness of his party for the council poll stated that the three new political parties should be allowed to participate in the conduct of the election to avoid litigations.

 

On his part, Chairman, Young Progressives Party, Mr Dotun Ojon urged ODIEC to embark on more sensitisation and voter education for more enlightenment on the conduct of the local government election.
