Ekiti State Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) after its March 2024 edition of its monthly congresses announced its decision to name its Main Auditorium in the Ekiti State Press Centre, Oke Bareke, Ado Ekiti after its pioneer Chairman, Comrade Akogun Tai Oguntayo.
Making this known, the Ekiti State Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists, Comrade Kayode Babatuyi revealed that the decision which was unanimously reached by all the members of the Congress in order to appreciate his remarkable contributions contributions towards the development of Journalism profession and the welfare of members of the profession in Ekiti State.
He listed the procuring of two airconditioned buses for NUJ, as some of his achievements during his regime.
Meanwhile, Mr. Agbelusi Ganiyu who was one of the former students of Hon. Akogun Tai Oguntayo said he deserved such a recognition in view of the wonderful contributions of the highly respected teacher and practitioner of the journalism profession to journalism not only in Ekiti State but the nation at large.
Speaking with Radio Nigeria shortly after the announcement was made, Akogun Tai Oguntayo said it was a great thing of joy for him to be celebrated while still alive and active in the service after thirteen years of leaving the office as State Chairman of Ekiti NUJ.
He revealed that the jubilations and applause from both near and far had been tremendous, thus making him ponder what he had done to deserve such recognition. The Okemesi Ekiti born born multiple award winner who is currently eyeing his Doctorate said his challenge now is to do everything possible to make NUJ grow, especially in Ekiti State.
