Stakeholders at a women’s summit in Akure organised by Nawoj B – Zone have advocated a systemic approach that will promote women inclusion in governance .
This approach included bridging the gender gaps in education, priority for women health-care, economic empowerment, political representation and social protection.
In a lecture on the topic of the summit – Women’s Perspective and Priorities in Policy Making : A pathway to inclusive governance , an APC governorship aspirant , Dr Funmilola Wahab-Adekojo harped on women’s empowerment to increase their participation in decision making process for a more effective governance.
Dr Wahab-Adekojo called for renewed effort at advancing women’s political leadership and ensuring that women’s perspectives and priorities were fully integrated into the fabric of policy making.
Another guest speaker, A former Chairperson of Osun Nawoj , Mrs. Sola Jacob- Adegbite encouraged women to shun taking the backseat in electoral process but be at advantaged positions to influence policies.
Also speaking, the Chairman , Ondo State House of Assembly Committee on Women Affairs, Mrs.Olawumi Fayemi promised that the assembly would continue to push forward bills that would create an enabling environment for women to thrive .
Earlier in a keynote address ,the Chairperson , Nawoj B Zone ,Mrs Adeola Adekunle said the zone under her leadership would continue to champion women emancipation in all areas.
In a goodwill message , Ondo NUJ Chairman, Prince Leke Adegbite appreciated women’s great role in the society while the summit host and Chairperson , Nawoj Ondo State, Comrade Tola Gbadamosi applauded contributions towards making women voices matter in decision making process.
The summit declared open by Governor Lucky Ayedatiwa represented by his Chief Press Secretary , Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan was attended by Nawoj leadership in the Southwest , women groups including WOMICAN , FOMWAN and others.
