The Management Team of the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) led by the Vice Chancellor, Prof (Mrs) Adenike Temidayo Oladiji, paid a courtesy call the Special Adviser to the Ondo state Governor on Health, Prof. Michael Simidele Odimayo, in furthering the ‘Town and Gown’ collaboration agenda of the University.

On behalf of the Ondo State Governor, His Excellency Gov. Lucky Orimisan Ayedatiwa, the Special Adviser on Health to the Governor, Prof Odimayo welcomed the FUTA Management Team and, in particular, expressed the interest of Governor Aiyedatiwa’s interest in the recent establishment of University’s College of Health Sciences, a good development which would have a positive impact on the health and economy of the State.

The FUTA Vice Chancellor Prof (Mrs) Oladiji, while giving a background for the establishment of FUTA’s College of Health Sciences, explained that a provision had been for the establishment of the Medical College in the enabling founding laws of the University since it’s inception in 1981. She further explained that the Medical College took in her first set of Medical Students in 2021 and that these students are due to conclude complete their pre-clinical training later this year and would commence their clinical training programme soon after.

Professor Oladiji went further to explain that the FUTA Teaching Hospital project at Eleyowo community, in Akure is progressing well and is receiving good support from all relevant stakeholders. She analysed the immense advantages accruable to Ondo State from the FUTA Teaching Hospital when it becomes fully functional as it would, among other things, attract Federal Government’s investments in men and infrastructure in the state and, thus, enhance manpower of development in the health sector in Ondo State, in particular, and nationally, in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In their respective contributions, Prof Adejuyigbe, Provost of the College of Health Sciences, and Prof. Olusegun Ojo, the Dean of the School of Basic Clinical Sciences, FUTA, further elaborated on the huge benefits that the FUTA Teaching Hospital and the FUTA’s College of Health Sciences would imply for the Ondo State government and her peoples.

The Special Adviser on Health, Prof Odimayo appreciated the Vice Chancellor for the courtesy call and promised to be available to give support to FUTA, especially with respect to the development of their Medical Programme and Teaching Hospital. This stance, he explained, is in line with the nature of our beloved Governor, His Excellency Lucky Orimisan Ayedatiwa, who has tremendous goodwill for anyone or organization who are committed to improving the welfare of the Ondo state people.

 

Further, he said that Mr Governor, since he assumed office, has injected a new life into Ondo State health sector. He is currently employing about two thousand health workers as well as engineering effectiveness and efficiency in the health sector.

On a parting note,the FUTA Vice Chancellor congratulated His Excellency Gov Lucky Ayedatiwa for His success in the just concluded primary elections and also wished the Governor greater success in the forthcoming general election.
