The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on President Bola Tinubu to declare a state of emergency in the state.

The call follows the ongoing political crisis over the tenure of chairmen of the 23 local government areas across the state.

APC’s Caretaker Committee Chairman in Rivers State, Chief Tony Okocha, made the demand while addressing journalists on Wednesday in Port Harcourt, the state’s capital.

Okocha declared that Rivers State is currently at war between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the governor himself.

He warned that if the crisis is allowed to escalate, it will definitely affect the economy of Nigeria considering the position of the state in the country.

Governor Fubara had earlier on Wednesday sworn in caretaker committees to head the local governments after the expiration on Monday of the three years tenure of the former officer holders.

Fubara had in a statewide broadcast ruled out the extension of the former chairmen who were said to be loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike with who the governor is locked in political dispute.
