The Commander, Nigerian Navy Ship, NNS Beecroft, Commodore Rafiu Taye Oladejo has handed over seventy – two, in forty kilogrammes bags of seized Cannabis Sativa, to the Management of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, in Lagos.
In line with the directives of the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, the Nigerian Navy has pledged never to relent in its deliberate pursuit of criminals operating in the nation’s maritime environment.
This is to ensure safe and secured waterways for genuine businesses to thrive.
It was for this resolve, that the Officers of the Base in their unrelenting intelligent efforts with inputs from the Officers of the Deep Blue Economy of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA, got a tip off, a search mission which took the Officers to Elegushi beach in Lagos, where the abandoned drugs were seized.
Navy Commodore Oladejo after displaying the heaps of the said drugs, explained how the seizure was made and what happened later.
When asked where the drugs could have come from, the Naval Boss made a guess.
The Commander, NNS Beecroft, further explained that full investigation would be conducted by the Management of the NDLEA, as the exhibits were being handed over to them.
Receiving the seventy bags of the Cannabis Sativa from the Commander, NNS Beecroft, the Marine Commander of the NDLEA, Mr Paul Ahom, explained that when his organisation took delivery of exhibits such as that, they would conduct brief investigation but if such exhibits are presented together with the suspects, it will allow for a larger scale of investigation with the aid of the suspects involved.
Mr Ahom however expressed gratitude to the Nigerian Navy for always arresting and handing over suspects and exhibits to them for further investigations and prosecution but also expressed regrets over the continued delays in the judicial system which drags for too long sometimes.
The NDLEA Boss commended the existing synergy between the two Organisations and pledged to continue to nurture it for the common good of Nigeria and the citizenry at all time
