The Plateau State Police Command has confirmed that Twenty-two Students died and several others injured following the collapse of a two storey building at Saint Academy, a secondary school around Bussa Buji area of Jos,the Plateau State capital.

At about 10am on Friday, the city of Jos was thrown into mourning when junior students of Saint academy who were writing their examination in their classrooms were suddenly buried in rubble when the two storey buildings suddenly collapsed affecting Eight classes.
Respondents at the scene told Radio Nigeria that there have been complaints about the school building due to the mining activities being carried out because it is a waterlogged area.
A teacher in the school who asked to remain anonymous narrated what happened.
Executive Secretary,State Emergency Management Agency SEMA Mister Sunday Abdu who applauded collaborations from sister agencies stressed that casualties would have been more if not for quick response from spirited individuals

Addressing Newsmen, the Commissioner for information, Musa Ashoms said all hospitals have been contacted to take in the casualties and treat them as swiftly as possible and called on residents to seek professional hands when erecting buildings so as to avert such calamity.
Zonal coordinator North central, Nigerian building and road research institute David Josa confirmed to newsmen that samples of the collapsed building have been taken for investigation to ascertain the cause of the incidence assuring that anyone found guilty of compromising standards will be made to face the full wrath of the law.
Various emergency rescue teams were on ground taking the injured students for medical attention while emergency rescue personnel were making frantic efforts to rescue some of the victims trapped beneath the rubble with the aid of an excavator.
