The Federal Government has assured that fifteen million tons of fish will be made available for Nigerian women from now to February next year to ensure every citizen in the country access to affordable fish.
The Minister of Women and Social Development, Uju Kennedy-Ohannenye gave the assurance when she paid a courtesy call on Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State at Government House.
Mrs Kennedy-Ohannenye said the fish when provided would be accompanied by grilling machine that would process about six thousand tons per hour, package them and export thirteen million tons to other parts of the world.
The Minister said according to a research conducted by the ministry this would make Nigerian the leading exporter of fish across the globe.
She said the ministry sought the permission of ministry of water resources to give women access to dams across the country to farm and feed the nation with affordable and cheap food.
The Minister said a collaboration with the Nigerian Army is being discussed to ensure security for those women while doing their legal businesses.
Governor Bala Mohammed commended the Minister for her commitment, foresight and resilience towards liberating women from the shackles of poverty.
Radio Nigeria gathered that the Minister was accompanied by three principal officers in the ministry in compliance President Bola Tinubu’s directive of cutting cost of governance.
