Members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), in Ondo state have been directed not to participate in the planned August 1st nationwide protest.

This is just as Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa charged members of the union and residents of the state against violent protest against President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Comrade Ademola Odudu, the state Chairman of the union, gave the directive in Akure on Thursday during a peace meeting with former chairmen, leaders and members of the union in the state.

The peace meeting attended by three former chairmen of NURTW namely Oba Solomon Adejayan, Chief Oladutele Obayoriade and Com. Jacob Adebo Idajo, was facilitated by Governor Aiyedatiwa.

The Governor represented by his Special Adviser on Union matters, Comrade Bola Taiwo, said peaceful protest is not a bad action, but the latest planned protest was targeted at destroying lives and properties considering the recent Kenyan experience and EndSars protest.

Aiyedatiwa appealed to NURTW members to shun the protest in the interest of the state and her people.

The Governor who also spoke at the peace accord through Comrade Bola Taiwo said; “we don’t want any pandemonium in our state, bye bye to any protest, we should not join any protest in this state, we want peace in Ondo state and SouthWest in general.

Ademola Odudu said; “we have addressed all our members not to join the protest that could lead to any breaking of laws and orders because we are not a troublemakers, we are not a thugs and we are very responsible.

“The protest will destabilized our constitutional government and we don’t want that in Ondo state, we have realized that the planned protest is to destabilize the government of President Bola Tinubu.
