A two-day workshop for journalists in the Southwest has opened in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

 

The workshop organized by the Media Rights Agenda is to sensitize journalists about laws and regulations guiding media operations in Nigeria.

It is also to equip them with a comprehensive understanding of the legal landscape governing media operations with a view to enhancing the capacity of professionals to report ethically, freely and safely.

 

Declaring the workshop open , the Executive Director, Media Rights Agenda, Mr Edetaen Ojo said journalism was not just a profession but a pillar of democracy hence the need for journalists to be abreast of laws guiding the profession for accuracy and protection.

Mr Ojo lamented that despite the important role the media played, journalists have continued to suffer harassment from different quarters.

Two participants, Adeyemi Okediran and Olajumoke Omotosho said the workshop was timely especially in the face of the ongoing end bad governance protest.

Journalists from the print, broadcast and online media are attending the workshop which is in series and will be held in the coming weeks across Nigeria.
