Journalists have again been advised to always get their facts right before putting out any story.

This came to the fore at a workshop for journalists drawn from the southwest in Abeokuta, Ogun state.

The Executive Director, Media Rights Agenda and convener of the workshop Mr Edetaen Ojo said journalists must always double check their facts and source before going ahead with a story to avoid running into legal issues.

Mr Ojo who emphasized that journalists must have a broad base idea of laws of the land said many had fallen victim of litigations bordering on defamation and hate speech in recent time.

He hinted that many media organisations had folded up due to devastating effect of court judgements as such, journalists must report and follow up unbiased stories while also correcting factual error in a previous bulletin in the subsequent ones.
