It was a black Sunday at Uba-oka in Akoko southwest local government area of ondo when a 36yr old farmer, Sunday Ayeni was killed in his farm by men suspected to be herdsmen.

 

A relative of the deceased farmer who preferred anonymity said Sunday Ayeni’s farm was vandalized last week by some herdsmen.

 

Security agents and elders in the community were said to have intervened and restored peace while the herdsmen paid an undisclosed amount to the late farmer as compesation.

 

The source disclosed that the herdsmen were not happy with the judgment hence the reprisal attack on the farmer.

 

The late Sunday Ayeni was said to have gone to his farm with dog as usual on Sunday but did not return on time.

 

A search party was deployed and his lifeless body discovered in the pool of his own blood with his and cutlass beside him.

 

A farmer and a community leader, Mr Pius Imoru disclosed that the whole community was in mourning mood saying farmers in Uba-oka Akoko are now scared of going to their farms because of herdsmen attacks.

 

A non governmental organization in Akoko, Akoko security, peace and development council under the leadership of Major General Dayo Olukoju rtd has condemned the act calling on communities to be security conscious.

 

Personnel of Amotekun Corps are said to be on the trail of the assailants.

 

Police in the area are yet to speak on the sad development.
