Members of federation of Muslim women association in Nigeria have gathered in Akure the Ondo State capital for their 39th national conference.
The opening ceremony scheduled for Friday is with the theme “WOMEN AND THE CHALLENGES OF INSECURITY“.
At a press conference, FOMWAN called on the federal government to implement policies that could reposition the nation and also address many challenges facing the country especially insecurity.
The National Amirah, Hajia Rofiat Sanni who led other national leaders for the conference said FOMWAN was founded to serve as a voice for women and children with special focus on five key areas including education and community development to improve the lives of the masses.
Also speaking, FOMWAN Chairperson, National Education Committee, Prof Lateefa Durosemi urged the Muslim umars and parents to support the education of their children to stop them from being used as suicide bombers due to lack of education.
On her part, FOMWAN National BOT, Prof Saadiya Omar appealed to the federal government to secure the release of one of them, Dr Popoola Ganiyat kidnapped by bandits in Kaduna State.
They equally urged the Universal Basic Education to implement the UBE act to allow for the punishment of parents who refused to send their children to school.
