The Ondo state government says it has approved Two billion naira for the purchase of food items to address the current hike in food prices.
The commissioner for agriculture, Chief Olayato Aribo who announced this during a news briefing in Akure noted that the fund would be in two phases for short and long term solutions.
For the short term-solution, Chief Aribo hinted that the first phase of one billion naira would be deployed for the purchase of most consumed food items such as rice, gari among others.
The commissioner while explaining that the foodstuffs would be sold on Sundays at controlled prices said the second tranche of the fund would be used for land clearing at subsidized price with water reticulation to make the land available for farming all year round.
Also at the briefing, the Commissioner for Education and technology, Mr Laolu Akindolire said the State had disbursed three hundred and thirty five million naira for the payment of bursary awards and working tirelessly to reduce out of school children and also recruit additional teachers before the resumption of a new academic session.
On the activities of the Ministry of environment, the commissioner, Mr Niyi Oseni hinted that intra-roads network as well as those inherited from late Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu would be completed without further delay.
In a remark, the Commissioner for Information, Mr Wale Akinlosotu who explained that the four ministries converged to brief the State residents on government’s performance appreciated journalists in the state for always abiding by the media laws and ethics while reporting events.
Earlier, the Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ondo State council, Prince Leke Adegbite appreciated members of the cabinet for recognising Journalists roles of holding government accountable for a better society.
