Members of the Ondo State House of Assembly have condemned the recent killings of a farmer, Mrs Ayelabola Lucia and an Okada rider, Sunday Oladele, popularly known as ‘Arogidigba’ at Ago Oyinbo in Igbatoro Familugba Community, in Akure North Area of the State by suspected herdsmen.
In a statement in Akure by the Chairman, House Committee on Information, Chief Olatunji Oshati said that the lawmakers led by the Speaker, Rt. Honourable Olamide Oladiji describes the killings as senseless and barbaric.
Earlier, the lawmaker representing Akure North Constituency, Mr Kolawole Ologede, called for urgent action from the State government and security agencies to protect the lives of farmers in the area.
Expressing sadness over incessant killings in the Constituency by the suspected herdsmen, he lamented that such might discourage farmers from working if not urgently addressed.
The House later urged community leaders and dwellers to collaborate with security agencies with a view to identifying the perpetrators, appealing to the youths in the area to maintain peace and avoid reprisal attack.
While calling for immediate investigation into the ugly incident the lawmakers sympathised with families of the deceased, assuring them that the perpetrators would face the full wrath of law when arrested.
Two farmers, identified as Segun and Paul were attacked by suspected herdsmen while working on their farmlands in August this year.
