The Ondo state government says plans are underway to establish a cancer treatment centre in the state.
The commissioner for health, Dr Banji Ajaka who announced this while addressing journalists in Akure said the government’s decision became imperative as cancer patients in the state travel as far as Lagos to access treatment.
Dr Ajaka said in addition to building a cancer treatment centre, government had also renovated over ten health institutions across the state and employed more health workers to ensure delivery of quality health care to citizens.
He disclosed that the mother and child hospital in Oke Aro, Akure had been upgraded to secondary health facility.
Dr Ajaka added that a Dental headquarters annexe had been sites in the hospital, equipped with brand new modern Equipment such as Dental unit. x ray machine, Autoclave, and other hand instruments.
Also speaking, his counterpart from the ministry of lands and housing, Mr Akinwumi Sowore unveiled government’s plan to revoke any land being used by hoodlums or constitute security threats.
Mr Sowore debunked allegation that the state government had revoked the land at the agric office along Ondo road in Akure with the intention of allocating same to politicians saying the revocation was just being proposed to stop illicit activities of hoodlums on the land.
He clarified that the residents of the area had raised concern about activities of hoodlums using the land which was initially meant for farming to perpetrate evil thus giving rise to criminal activities in the area.
Mr Sowore maintained that the land was still under the control of the ministry of agriculture.
